This module aligns to NMC (2019) Standards of Proficiency for Midwives Domain 3 and will introduce students to key concepts, policy and practice related to universal midwifery care. Exploring how universal care impacts on the life course of women, childbearing people and newborn infants and how working in partnership can optimise positive outcomes, to include identifying and preventing complications, learners will examine the homogeneity and diversity of women and other childbearing people's lived experiences and the resources and opportunities available to them, to include the impact of inequalities and the role of the midwife in enhancing population health. Learners will apply knowledge and understanding of psychological and emotional wellbeing, anatomy, physiology, genetics, genomics, epigenetics and medicines related to childbearing, fetal development, neonatal adaptation and infant feeding.
