Description
This non-credit bearing module will enable learners to experience direct care of women and childbearing people, their newborn infants and families during practice placements. Supervised by suitably qualified and prepared practitioners, learners will experience a range of practice experiences in different settings with service users and families who have diverse physical, social, psychological and emotional needs. They will develop skills to enable them to meet the requirements of Domain 6 as stated within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards of proficiency for midwives (NMC 2019), under the following areas:
Communication, sharing information and relationship management Being an accountable, autonomous, professional midwife Safe and effective midwifery care: promoting and providing continuity of care and carer Assessment, screening, planning care and support across the continuum Evidence-based medicines administration and optimisation Universal care for all women and newborn infants Additional care for women and newborn infants with complications Promoting excellence: the midwife as colleague, scholar and leader
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate competence in selected Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2019) Standards of proficiency for midwives (Domain 6) and professional behaviours in accordance with the MORA (year 1)
Evidence knowledge and understanding of numeracy and pharmacology through safe and effective medicines management, within a midwifery scope of practice

MORA (pass/fail) Calculations of medicines (pass/ fail) is set at 80%. This complies with NMC (2019) Standards for Pre-registration Midwifery Programmes, Section 4: 4.5
