This module aligns to NMC (2019) Standards of Proficiency for Midwives Domain 5 \"Promoting excellence: the midwife as colleague, scholar and leader. Learners will critically consider the use and application of evidence in healthcare policy and practice, as well as limitations, by engaging with and reviewing local, national and international research in midwifery and related fields. They will have the opportunity to develop their skills in scholarship through supported critical appraisal of qualitative and quantitative research paradigms and methods, audit and service evaluation methodologies and the use of engagement and consultation in developing services. Learners will consider the ethical dimensions of research and enquiry, as well as the interpretation and application of findings to their own practice and the wider maternity service.

Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the importance of research and scholarship in midwifery and related fields to safe and effective care.
Understand the limits of knowledge gained from research in maternity care and critically explore how data and theoretical frameworks from other disciplines can be safely applied to midwifery practice
