Description
Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by multiple tics and frequently associated with behavioural symptoms. This module covers the epidemiology, clinical presentation, pathophysiology, and treatment of TS. Both clinical and neurobiological data are reviewed. The focus of the module includes a variety of TS-related conditions (OCD, ADHD and other developmental disorders) which affect diagnosis, presentation, and management. The sessions include clinical scenarios and challenges posed by TS in both childhood and adulthood.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
Describe the biological data on TS, and their importance in the brain/mind debate;
Describe the epidemiology, course and clinical presentation of TS;
Assess and manage both tics and behavioural symptoms in patients with TS;
Describe the care needs of people with TS, and available services.
