Abnormal immune responses are also covered, with reference to human disease. The majority of lecture content will be made available as a series of podcast lectures before the programme commences, allowing students to proceed with outline material at their own pace. This learning will be enhanced with a few face-to-face lectures followed by an extensive series of small group teaching sessions to provide further tuition and clarification of understanding.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental cellular and molecular elements of the innate immune response;
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental cellular and molecular elements of the adaptive immune response;
  • Apply fundamental knowledge of the immune system to the understanding of human diseases that involve the immune system;
  • Summarise and communicate an aspect of the knowledge gained of innate and adaptive immunity.
