Exclusions
Description A research project based module, designed to introduce students to project based work. Students are required to undertake projects chosen from a wide and varied list of titles. The work is designed to promote independent learning (although academic support is available), reflection upon and analysis of results, and forward planning. This module also contains a component of project research skills which is a taught component aimed to provide the students with the academic writing skills they will need for their project work. The results of the project work are communicated using a written dissertation, oral presentation and oral defence of the project (viva voce with their assessors).
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate an ability to carry out project based work;
  • Demonstrate an ability for independent learning and time management
  • Demonstrate an ability for reflection upon and analysis of results, and for forward planning;
  • Demonstrate an ability to put in to practice the transferable skills developed in earlier modules;
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate the results of their research using written and oral methods.
Assessment 00611-01 : Continual Assessment : Dissertation (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments:
Literature research project (100%): Continuously assessed using presentations (written and oral) and an interview (on the project work). Overall Project Mark is determined as follows: Proficiency of project work 10%, Written Report 60%, Oral Presentation 10%, Interview 20%.
