The lecture courses on offer allow students to follow their specialisation (as defined by their degree title) or to study areas of chemistry of general interest. The chemical topics offered are: Analytical Science; Bioorganic Chemistry and Computational Chemistry. Students select TWO of the courses on offer.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module the student should be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the (introductory) principles and concepts associated with their chosen Chemical Topics;

Apply their acquired knowledge to the solution of relevant problems;

Appreciate a number of topical areas of Chemistry.

Assessment 16741-01 : Exam : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments: The Computational Chemistry option is assessed continually through a number of pieces of coursework. The remaining options are examined through a final examination. Formal Written Unseen Examination: 100% - An end of session examination contributes 100 % of the overall module mark. The exam is 1.5 hours in duration (45 mins for those taking the computational chemistry option) and is closed book. Reassessment: If a student fails to p[ass the module at the first attempt, the end of session examination may be taken as a resit with the mark capped at 40 %.
