Description

This is a module that is based on independent literature research and learning on the part of the student. There is an introductory lecture followed by 3 workshops on literature searching, scientific and critical writing. Each student will be assigned a member of staff for consultation of the content of the proposed critique amounting to not more than 1 hour

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to carry out research of complex literature associated with a current and evolving topic in some depth;
  • critically assess the various facets of a problem even when authoritative figures disagree;
  • have highly developed presentational and organisational skills;
  • discriminate between authoritative and more questionable sources of information;
  • Consistently use a clear and appropriate system for referencing source material at all relevant points in the text;
  • submit an essay in clear, well-written, grammatical English, of the required word-length and according to the specified deadline.
