Description

The module comprises one laboratory activity taken from a range of different areas of physics. These areas are chosen to key-in to relevant topics from the more theoretical parts of the degree programmes and to illustrate modern and forefront topics in physics. They build on the experimental and theoretical skills acquired in earlier years. The experiments are designed to be progressive and to allow the possibility for students showing initiative to obtain higher marks.

Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student should be able to:
  • Function experimentally at level H;
  • Assemble experiments from their discreet components where appropriate;
  • Obtain background information, relevant to the experiment, from a variety of sources;
  • Take and analyse data from these experiments;
  • Record data in a clear and professional manner;
  • Interpret the results at the appropriate level;
  • Communicate the results and analysis of the experiment to the demonstrators and their peers.
