Description

This module builds on the knowledge and understanding provided by level 1 modules in Human Physiology and Biochemistry and Cell Physiology. It provides the basis for third year modules with a strong physiological component (e.g. Environmental Physiology). The responses of the major physiological systems of the body to exercise and environment are studied. The integrative nature of the neural, muscular, metabolic, respiratory and cardiovascular responses is examined in some detail.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module you should be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge and understanding of:

  • Identify and critically evaluate environmental factors that influence body homeostasis
  • Describe physiological adaptations to extreme environmental conditions at rest
  • Describe physiological adaptations to extreme environmental conditions during exercise
