The dissertation represents the culmination of the training received in the MSc. It offers a chance to apply the theoretical and applied training gathered through the taught elements of the MSc to the analysis and solution of a river environmental management research problem identified by the student in consultation with the module leader and dissertation supervisor.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
Successfully design and carry out an independent piece of research;
Make original observations or interpret secondary data;
Interpret previously published research in the context of the identified research problem;
Present the research results clearly and concisely in both written and graphical form;
Critically evaluate the attainment of research aims and objectives and therefore appreciate the limitations and success of the research process.
Produce concise dissertation proposal encapsulating main goals of project and outline methods and data analysis approaches to be adopted.
