This module will build on students’ previous fieldwork experience to enable them to undertake, in small groups, a field-based research project. The projects will be student devised and led, with guidance from their project advisor, and will draw upon both theoretical and methodological approaches gained from other modules. Prior to work in the field there will be a series of seminars which will provide background to the field work location, introduce readings and other sources, and facilitate the development of project ideas. It is envisaged that students will spend 6 days in the field. The first will be guided by the module team and then five days will be spent on the project, with input from academics each day. Depending on student demand there will be three field work locations, one non-EU (such as Tokyo), one EU and Birmingham.

Identify and evaluate relevant grey literature and media sources.

Produce a high level of analysis of a wide range of materials
Effectively communicate complex ideas in writing.
