Description This level 3 module builds on the knowledge, principles and concepts developed through pre-requisite modules (LC Organic Chemistry Ia and Ib and LI Organic Chemistry IIa and IIb). The module covers more advanced aspects of organic chemistry , and seeks to rationalise the outcome of reactions and processes through the application of mechanistic theory and fundamental physical principles.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module, students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts associated with the material delivered in each area;
  • Apply their acquired knowledge to the solution of relevant unseen problems;
  • Apply their knowledge of reactions, mechanisms and retrosynthetic strategy to devise synthetic reaction sequences;
  • Apply their knowledge of reactions, mechanisms mechanisms and physical principles to rationalise observations and unfamiliar processes
