This core module will provide an advanced Masters level understanding of the main types of research methodology in mental health. The module will focus on theory as well as practice so that students acquire the requisite skills to apply this knowledge and are able to demonstrate the application of research skills. Quantitative and qualitative research methodology will be covered including skills development in epidemiology and statistics, clinical trials, evidence synthesis and meta-analysis, neurosciences, evaluation methods, ethnography, thematic analysis, realist methods. The module will particularly assist individuals across all four pathways to develop practical skills in undertaking research.

By the end of the module, students should be able to:
Critically evaluate published literature, analyse and interpret data and devise areas for further study
Design and undertake primary and secondary mental health research using different methods
Undertake self-directed learning and apply these skills
