Description This module develops a basic understanding of the fundamental concepts of vibrations and wave motion. simple harmonic motion and basic wave properties will be covered.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Show a basic understanding of Simple Harmonic Motion and use equations for simple vibrating systems
  • Use appropriate terminology, equations and graphical representations to describe different types of waves and wave phenomena
  • Define what is meant by reflection, refraction, polarization and superposition (leading to interference and diffraction effects) and calculate simple quantities associated with such effects
