Restrictions
This module is only available to students on the International Foundation Year programme (multiple pathways) and the Home/EU Foundation Year programmes in the EPS College.
Safeguarding is led by the BIA for under 18s, academics teaching this module would not have 1-1 meetings with students in private offices with U18. Academics having 1-1 tutorials will be DBS checked and aware of relevant safeguarding procedures
This introductory module delivers fundamental concepts and principles related to chemical elements, and their compounds. Thus, the module covers physical and chemical changes, valency, chemical formula and chemical reactions (stoichiometry). The concept of the mole is presented, and is used in related calculations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Balance chemical equations, and use these equations to undertake reacting quantities calculations;
Apply their acquired knowledge to the solution of relevant problems within the context of the course, e.g. empirical formula calculations, calculations involving concentrations.
Assessment
34680-01 : class tests : Class Test (50%)
34680-03 : Exam : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (50%)
