Lifespan Psychology B: Social Psychology of the Person module provides students with a critical introduction to the scientific understanding of the role than social and individual factors play in the formation and constitution of the person across the lifespan. The module provides an overview of key topics within social psychology and individual differences, including, (1) theoretical debates and research methods, (2) individual differences, such as intelligence and personality, (3) social psychological topics, such as, peer relationships, attitudes, and isolation. Consistent with the British Psychological Society Accreditation Guidelines (2019) and QAA Benchmarks for Psychology (2016), the module introduces topics in the core areas of Social Psychology and Individual Differences, the module applies multiple perspectives to studying social factors and determinants in individual differences that are influential in the formation of the person.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of historical and conceptual debates within the field of social psychology and individual differences.
Demonstrate knowledge of a range of research methods and techniques used to study the person in social psychology and individual differences
Understand and critically evaluate the empirical evidence underpinning selected theories relating to social psychology and individual differences.
Demonstrate skills in searching for and evaluating scientific evidence related to social psychology and individual differences.
Develop cogent arguments about topics in social psychology and individual differences using appropriate empirical evidence.
