The Public Health Integration module is designed for students to evaluate complex threats to public health and well-being in both a national and international context. The module analyses the complexity of the interaction of various determinants of health through case study analysis and investigates the aspects of leadership, professional judgement, planning and communication which can maximise the outcome for a given situation. The module consolidates and builds upon learning from previous taught modules and examines understanding and ability integrate knowledge across intervention areas. The aim of the module is “For students to integrate public and environmental health knowledge across intervention areas associated with Dahlgren and Whitehead’s 1992 conceptualisation of the determinants of health and well-being.”
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
demonstrate a conceptual understanding of knowledge across intervention areas associated with the determinants of health and well-being within an international context
evaluate complex threats to public health and well-being at national and international level, and show how the assimilation and application of knowledge can be used to generate possible options for resolution of the problem
demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of a range of measures that can be used to maximise the outcome for a given situation including the ability to interpret where this action fits with models
demonstrate the complexity of the interaction of the determinants of health, and how the use of evidence-based practice and reflective practice supports an effective approach. In particular, to demonstrate outcomes in relation to impact on the life course
demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of building relationships, planning and organising, professional conduct and leadership in a national and international context
make sound judgements in the absence of complete data and communicate conclusions clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences
