Description
In this module you will be introduced to the key omics technologies in the context of microbiology and infection, and microbiomes, and learn to analyze, visualize, and understand -omics data and how they are used in research. Specifically, we cover: 1. Genomics 2. Transcriptomics 3. Proteomics 4. Metabolomics The module is delivered via a mix of lectures and data handling workshops.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Describe a range of technologies used in omics
Critically evaluate and justify the selection of appropriate technology and experimental design for omics studies
Contrast and compare the merits of genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics
Select and apply appropriate software tools for complex data analysis tasks, demonstrating critical awareness of their relevance, capabilities, and limitations.
Analyse, visualize, and interpret omics data

Reassessment: A single data handling test assessing all aspects of the module. The mark will be capped at the 50% pass mark.
