Exclusions
Description The main purpose of this module is to introduce underpinning theoretical knowledge and their practical contextual considerations for the evaluation of performance of both athletes and staff within high performance sport environments. Characteristics of effective testing programmes along with contemporary approaches to testing and evaluation will be presented from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Important considerations for data analysis, data handling and associated feedback along with an understanding of the role of technology in the assessment process will be included. The strategic planning and implementation of assessments of individual and organisational effectiveness will be introduced in order to provide students with critical insight into the translation of theory into practice.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a critical awareness of multidisciplinary theoretical knowledge and its application in relation to athlete and staff assessment in elite sport
  • Evidence competence in appropriate data collection, analysis and handling techniques relevant to the evaluation of performance of both athletes and staff
  • Systematically create and apply an understanding of processes relevant to the planning and implementation of a multidisciplinary performance evaluation programme in elite sport
  • Demonstrate a critical awareness of safe and effective practice associated with performance evaluations in elite sport
  • Communicate outcomes effectively to specialist and non-specialist audiences following performance evaluations in elite sport

Assessment Methods & Exceptions The assessment strategy is designed to be reflective of tasks that would be completed in real world situations in high performance sport. The strategy includes:
Proposal and project plan for athlete/staff evaluation programme (1500 words, 25%)
Written professional report on evaluation outcomes (2500 words, 50%)
Presentation of reflective evaluation of athlete/staff evaluation programme (25%)

Reassessment: Resubmission of failed component
