This will be a core module of the MSc and will focus on the clinical knowledge and competencies required for students to succeed in their second-year placements and to secure employment in clinical services after graduation. Thus, this module will introduce the key models of psychological intervention; outline how these may be adapted to suit different populations; and will cover issues of professional practice, such as fitness to practice and clinical governance.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Critically consider the main models of psychological intervention (CBT, behavioural, psychodynamic, systemic) and be able to make links between theory and practical application.
Critically consider how psychological interventions may be adapted to population (children and young people, families, older adults, in learning disability) and setting / delivery context (inpatient, outpatient, primary care, digital health).
Demonstrate awareness and understanding of professional issues related to personal competency (including use of reflection and supervision), clinical governance, fitness to practice, and professional standards.
