Exclusions
Description This will be the first of the core modules of the MSc and thus will cover core concepts including mental health, mental disorder, wellbeing and the relation to physical health; as well as prevention, early intervention and treatment; and the major groups of mental disorders and their classification.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module, students should be able to:
  • Critically consider the concepts of mental health and mental disorder
  • Critically consider principles of prevention and early intervention in mental health
  • Appraise the evidence relating to the major mental health disorders
  • Critically consider the different kind of interventions for mental health problems (social, psychological, biological) and service- and policy-level approaches to mental health problems

Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment: 2000-word essay (70%); 700-word blog post and 5 minute video presentation (30%)
