Description You will be introduced to key topics in Chemistry. Initially, basic Chemistry concepts are introduced, including bonding, structure, nomenclature, and moles. These concepts are then built upon to explore important topics and applications within Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Identify and appropriately represent the bonding and structure of organic and inorganic compounds.
  • Calculate reacting quantities using balanced chemical equations.
  • Predict basic organic reactions and draw arrow-pushing mechanisms for molecules containing common functional groups.
  • Identify and predict reactions involving inorganic compounds and coordination complexes.
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:

2 in-course written unseen tests (2 x 25%) and written unseen examination (50%, 2 hours)

Reassessment:

100% exam (2 hours) in the supplementary period.
