This module introduces students to research design and core research methods. We aim to consider the whole research cycle from question development to choice of methods and data analysis techniques. By the end of the module students will have developed a solid understanding of research design and core methods, and demonstrate the capacity to reflect critically on their role as student researchers. This module aims to prepare students for independent and group research projects conducted through the remainder of their degree.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate a sound understanding of research design
Demonstrate knowledge of a range of core research methods and data analysis techniques
Module will be assessed with a single piece of coursework with a 3400 word count equivalent which will demonstrate practical understanding of the research design process, appropriate choice of methods relevant to research questions and approach, and critical engagement with researcher positionality.
