The purpose of the module is to allow learners to approaches and methods in leadership that enable development of strategy, people, teams and relationships, and organisational culture. This module approaches leadership in sport by matching theoretical frameworks of leadership to its real-world practice in the sport performance environment. The content first introduces key leadership theories and concepts developed over the past century, within sport and society, and will include critical and historical perspectives on leadership and leadership studies. This module then seeks to provide an understanding of leadership from the perspective of leading others through teamwork and through organisational leadership, along with the workplace culture, structures and strategies to achieve these effectively. Working with others is an important concept in all professions in society, and the performance lens of sport uniquely focuses the attention on the success of leadership. Developing understanding in this area also provides an initial awareness and a basis for fundamental principles associated with leadership, and the concepts associated with its real-world practice.
