Description
The aim of the module is to enable students to build and validate discrete event simulation models from real system descriptions or observations, and conduct statistically-sound experimentation and predictions of system performance under new conditions.
Syllabus
Discrete event simulation;
simulation of simple systems on paper;
visual interactive model building;
stochasticity, warm-up, run length and replication;
verification validation and experimentation.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
Identify, classify and describe the performance of systems and components through the use of analytical methods and modelling techniques (E2)
Apply quantitative methods and computer software relevant to mechanical and related engineering disciplines, to solve engineering problems (E3)
Demonstrate an understanding of contexts in which engineering knowledge can be applied (e.g. operations and management, technology, development, etc) (P3)
