Description A consideration of food security as defined by the WHO. Aspects of insecurity and the mechanisms to manage them will be addressed including, for example :
  • ¿ Deliberate contamination
  • ¿ Infrastructure issues
  • ¿ Food safety management systems
  • ¿ Global sourcing
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student should be able to:
  • Identify the main contributors (according to the WHO) to making a community food secure
  • Demonstrate awareness of risks to food security globally and in the UK
  • Describe appropriate responses to perceived risks such as those used by government and the industry
  • Critically evaluate published documents relating to aspects of food chain security.
