This module provides the students with an overview of the key aspects of transport planning and the development of transport policy, with a particular focus on sustainability. The module provides a number of detailed case studies of cities which have addressed sustainability in different ways. Detailed information is provided about the impacts of transport on sustainability at both a local and global scale. The module will allow the students to consider alternative futures with more sustainable transport systems and to consider the implications of such changes on society and lifestyles. The module will provide a foundation on which further work, for example thesis writing, in the area of global sustainability can be based.
