Description The module covers advanced topics in structural materials and composite construction including:

1. Advanced Structural Materials
2. Structural Repair
3. Composite Construction
4. Prestressed Concrete Structures
5. Large Displacement Behaviour
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Critically assess the structural condition of existing structures and propose appropriate repair strategies
  • Critically evaluate the behaviour of composite structures and design composite members according to design standards
  • Critically evaluate the behaviour of prestressed concrete structures and design prestressed concrete members according to design standards
  • Explain large displacement behaviour and its role in resisting extreme events (e.g. disproportionate collapse)
  • Communicate key engineering and design concepts using professional drawings and/or sketches
