Exclusions
Description This module allows a student to explore a particular area of food safety, hygiene or management in more depth. It is designed to provide students with the underpinning skills to design, perform and complete a piece of independent research. The students will undertake a major research project consisting of approximately 12 weeks data gathering and analysis. This will be submitted as a dissertation.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Plan, perform and present a piece of independent research
  • Understand the stages involved in writing research protocols and developing research projects
  • Search out relevant literature and other information sources (including using the www)
  • Critically appraise research studies and interpret study findings
  • Understand the statistical methods for handling and presenting data and use statistical software
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments: a dissertation (approximately 10 000 words) that will constitute 80% of the final mark and a viva worth 20%. Students must achieve a minimum of 50% to pass the module.

Reassessment: resubmit dissertation and/or viva as required
