Description The module considers the main health hazards associated with water used as a food or ingredient, including the typical control methods used in the UK to ensure safety of supply. Recreational use of water in public swimming pools will also be considered.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the supply of water in the Uk including drainage basins , supply & treatment, fluoridation
  • Show familiarity with the relevant water quality regulations and water supply regulations.
  • Discuss the common water related hazards such as Cryptosporidium, including the resultant risks to human health, the impact of water related outbreaks and the common treatment methods designed to reduce or eliminate the these hazards
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the issues relating to water supply resilience and water security Define and discuss the particular hazards associated with Private Water supplies, the production of bottled water and public swimming pools.
