Description
This 2-week formative module will provide broad-based supplementary learning on railway technical vocabulary and specialist com¬munication skills.
The module familiarises students with the components of the railway system and its terminology and enhances relevant technical communication skills. Topics covered in the module include railway specific ter¬mi¬nology, components and subsystems of the railway, as well as basic concepts of railway safety and risk. Also included is a revision of presentation and writing skills.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Describe the railway system and its components to a level which meets preparation in advance of Masters-level study.
Understand the inter-relations between these components to a level which meets preparation in advance of Masters-level study.
Demonstrate academic skills in technical reading, writing and presentation of information in the context of railway systems and engineering and at a level appropriate for Masters-level study.
Understand the need and fundamental principles in managing safety and risk in the railway environment.
