In this module a technical specification for a mechatronic system will be issued to a group or groups of students. These groups then decide on their technical approach to the task. The groups are assessed on their analysis of the problem, the technical merit of their solution, any added-value in their solution and end-product performance.
The students are expected to undertake the design, construction and testing of any prototypes for the project during the guided independent study time, so that they will be ready to present it and demonstrate it on the demonstration day.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Analyse an unfamiliar engineering problem and propose a mechatronic solution
Design and implement a prototype mechatronic solution to an engineering problem
Demonstrate and produce a critical analysis of the performance of their solution
