Exclusions
Description The module will explore the use of fluid dynamics in aiding design. At the start of the module, a Civil Engineering related design challenge will be set and the students will work together in small teams in order to design a solution. The nature of the challenge will vary ever year but at its core will be the application of fluid dynamics. The challenges will, where possible, be related to realistic industrial/research issues.
Whilst the module will introduce new material in the form of design from a CFD perspective, the module is a specialist module that builds on prior learning and provides the ideal opportunity to develop and showcase your creativity with respect to fluid mechanics.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Understand and articulate the steps involved in design.
  • Apply the relevant fluid mechanics in order address design challenges
  • Understand the limitations/simplifications involved in the design solution
  • Pitch their design idea to a knowledgeable audience and robustly defend the derived solution.
