Description
Independent study, focused on a specific chosen design, development or research topic and demonstrating the ability to produce original and innovative work, incorporating critical analysis and discussion. Depending on the topic, the work might involve state-of-the-art information gathering, design, surveys, fieldwork, experimentation, numerical and/or theoretical modelling, and analysis.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of concepts and techniques applicable to their chosen work in design, development, research and/or advanced scholarship.
Critically evaluate design, development, research, and/or advanced scholarship in the discipline.
Deal with complex issues both systematically and creatively, and show originality in tackling and solving problems.
Demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques are used to create and interpret knowledge in the discipline.
Evaluate methodologies and develop critiques of them and, where appropriate, to propose new hypotheses.
Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems, and act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at postgraduate level.
Provide clear, critical and reflective recommendations and/or assessments of findings supported by evidence.
