Description This innovative module will enable students to experience the practice of a professional engineer or scientist through a combination of observational work placements, classroom based sessions and research based tasks. Through this an understanding of the personal and professional qualities necessary for further study and a career in these fields will be developed. Skills of reflection, report writing, information retrieval, oral communication and group work will be taught and developed
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Understand the professional skills, habits and competencies of an engineer or physical scientist.
  • Understand the ethical, environmental, social and cultural responsibilities of an engineer or physical scientist.
  • Demonstrate the ability to keep accurate and insightful records of their own learning
  • Write an extended assignment in an academic style.
