Description In this module, the mathematical foundations required for the programme will be introduced. It will review and extend students' knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, differentiation, integration. Further mathematical foundations required for the programme, such a complex numbers will be introduced. It will introduce logical and mathematical ideas fundamental to computation.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Use algebraic and trigonometric techniques proficiently
  • Use differential calculus to solve engineering problems
  • Use integral calculus to solve engineering problems
  • Use vector and matrix methods to solve engineering problems
  • Solve problems involving complex numbers
  • Use number theory in computational problems
  • Use analytical techniques to understand computational processes
  • Apply methods of logic to solve computational problems
