Description The module begins with a large section on database implementation technology. Some of this is covered in lectures, some by directed reading. The technology covered is then applied to problems of performance tuning and physical data design. Finally a section on how relational databases fit in large scale web applications is presented.
Learning Outcomes To develop students' understanding of database technology; to provide an introduction to some areas of database research and development that are of significance to the research world and are now, or soon will be, impinging on the commercial world; to give a taste of what some research work is like in general and, particularly in the database field; to further develop skills in technical reading.
Assessment 02525-01 : Examination : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (80%)
02525-02 : Continuous Assessment : Coursework (20%)
