Description
This module gives students an opportunity to study in depth a topic in Management Mathematics, Statistics, Business Management or any combination of these that particularly interests them. This should normally involve a link with a particular company and may include some company based activities. The module should give students an idea of mathematical research and teaches key mathematical research and communication skills, including oral presentation of advanced material. Under regular supervision, about 400 hours of student effort will be devoted to study on the chosen topic and the preparation of written and oral reports.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:Show the ability to read and understand modern mathematical texts;Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of some area of Mathematics with Business Management and have a better perspective on the subject at research level;Use appropriate computer packages (if any);Typeset a general mathematical document of a simple nature in (La)TeX;Write and typeset more specialised reports associated with the project topic;Search for references and other material relevant to the project using library, internet and other appropriate tools;Produce a properly referenced mathematical document;Give oral presentations of a technical nature at an appropriate level.
