Description This module offers a broad introduction to computer science and computational thinking. You will learn key concepts from computer science in the areas of data representation, algorithms, and computer architecture. Alongside these theoretical components, you will also learn to write simple programmes in Python.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Identify, describe, interpret, and explain simple concepts in programming, data representation, algorithms, and computer architecture.
  • Construct Python code using a variety of basic programming constructs.
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:

Component 1:
20% - 10 assessed problems completed solely in workshops (1 per week).
40% - Take home programming assignment
Component 2:
40% - Written unseen examination (1hr 30 mins)

Reassessment:

Component 1:
60% - Take home programming assignment in supplementary period
Component 2:
40% - Written unseen examination in supplementary period (1 hr 30 mins)

Students will only resit the components they failed to pass in the main period.
