Description This introductory module will provide you with knowledge and competence of introductory mathematical concepts and techniques, and experience of relevant quantitative aspects necessary for further study in engineering and physical sciences undergraduate degrees.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Manipulate algebraic expressions and solve equations including polynomials, logarithms and exponentials.
  • Interpret, describe and sketch functions.
  • Use trigonometry to solve problems in geometry.
  • Analyse simple mechanical systems using mathematical techniques.
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:

50% from 2 written class tests, 50% written unseen examination ( 2 hours)

Reassessment:

100% exam in the supplementary period (2 hours)
