Description
This module will introduce the fundamental principles of the subject of Operations Management. Content includes: the strategic management of operations; design of operations systems; product and service design; service systems design; project management; operations planning and control; materials and inventory management; just-in-time management; supply chain management; quality control; and total quality management. As such, it is intended to assist in the effective internal management of organisations in the service, manufacturing and public sectors of the economy
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
develop a clear understanding of the characteristics of operations systems and the various approaches that may be adopted in the design, organisation and quality assurance of products, production systems and buiness processes; have practical knowledge of the current philosophies, techniques and technologies for the operation and control of operations systems; demonstrate an insight to both conventional quality control and modern approaches to quality management based upon principles of continuous improvement and total quality management.
