Description
The module starts by exploring the nature and causes of rural poverty, as well as the evolution of rural poverty policy interventions. It then critically evaluates a number of rural poverty interventions, including land reform, agricultural markets and fair trade, micro finance, basic needs approaches in education and health, technological transformation, migration and processes of globalisation.

By the end of this module, students should be able to:
Understand and critique different definitions of rural poverty
Articulate different causes of rural poverty
Critically evaluate a number of different rural poverty policy interventions
Articulate the possible impacts of globalization on the rural poor
