Description The module deals with new venture from inception of the idea to harvesting of the investment. We start with institutional background of new venture financing and differences between entrepreneurial and 'traditional' corporate finance. The second half of the module covers aspects of initial valuation and alternative ways to harvest equity investments.
Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module the student should be able to:

  • demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the differences between venture capital and 'traditional' corporate finance;
  • identify and appraise the differences in investment activities of venture funds across countries;
  • apply various valuation techniques in private equity settings;
  • critically examine costs and apparent anomalies related to IPOs.
Assessment 14898-01 : Continuous Assessment : Coursework (20%)
14898-02 : Examination : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (50%)
14898-04 : Group Report : Group Assessment - Coursework (30%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Main assessment: Continuous assessment (20%), Group report 5,000 words (30%) & 2 hour exam (50%).
Re-assessment: MCQ (20%), 1,500 word indivdual assignment (30%) & 2 hour exam (50%). Students only resit the failed component
