Description

The purpose of this module is to introduce students to key debates and controversies concerning organisational change. Students will cover a range of different perspectives on organisational change and develop an understanding of both the theoretical and practical implications of managing change. Additionally, they will develop an awareness of how the practice of change management relates to broader strategies for Human Resource Management.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the main competing models or organisational change;
  • identify contemporary issues in organisational change;
  • analyse and explain how change affects different organisational elements, and levels; understand the relationship between organisations, individuals and change agents; understand the political processes within organisations and their consequences for change;
  • critically appraise the relative strengths and weaknesses of models of change and apply these models to analyse organisational change cases;
  • formulate and evaluate change management strategies for a variety of organisations.
  • identify and justify a business issue that is of strategic relevance to the organisation;
  • evaluate major theories relating to motivation, commitment and engagement at work and how these are put into practice by organizations in the context of managing change;
  • contribute to the promotion of effective change management in organizations.
