Description Retailing is fundamentally important to the UK, European and World Wide economy It is necessary to understand the fundamental constructs of retail marketing because as consumers we use retail services on a daily basis.This course will examine the retailing industry from its beginnings to researchers’ predictions for the future. This module will explore the challenges that modern retailers face and how innovative strategy can be successful within a challenging environment. This module will not only examine the theory of retail but also industry practice. This module will examine critical aspects of contemporary retailing such as:
  • Digitalisation;
  • Store Design and the customer experience;
  • Ethical retail practice and Environmental Health;
  • Fashion retailing and the presentation of the individual.
Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of modern retailing and consumption practices;
  • Understand and critically evaluate retail strategy;
  • Identify and critically evaluate the characteristics of store and online design
  • evaluate the complex relationships within the retail industry;
  • critically evaluate retail channels and formats;
  • analyse the possible problems and opportunities encountered by global retail organisations

21436-02 : Individual Assignment : Coursework (70%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:
1 x group digital video submission – 8 minutes - 30%;
1 x 1500 word individual assignment - 70%.

Reassessment: 2000 word individual assignment (100%)
