Description

Students choose an area of individual interest in the areas of accounting and finance to study.  The Extended Essay is designed to test the student's ability to gather, analyse and draw conclusions from a body of evidence.  Working with an assigned tutor, students will select a topic relevant to the field, gather appropriate evidence, undertake an analysis of the evidence, draw conclusions from their analysis and, where appropriate, make recommendations.  The analysis undertaken may be based on primary or secondary evidence as appropriate to the topic selected; in either case an explanation of the methodology used and its suitability to the topic will be required.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module the student should be able to:

  • identify suitable research topics given the essay's constraints;
  • collect, organise and critically evaluate data;
  • identify and understand appropriate texts and readings;
  • organise and present findings in an appropriate academic style.
