The module will cover selections from the following topics: financial analysis and valuation, earnings per share, foreign currency translation, leasing, capital instruments, off balance sheet transactions, research and development expenditure, long-term contracts, segmental reporting, pensions, derivatives, revenue recognition, capitalisation of interest, as well as contemporary issues in financial accounting as they arise

By the end of the module the student should be able to: Apply appropriate (standard) financial accounting techniques to a range of advanced accounting problems; Evaluate critically the techniques applied; Understand and critically assess financial analysis and valuation techniques based on financial statement data; Appreciate the problems of regulating accounting practice.
