Description The module aims to deepen understanding of ideas and theories that underpin the economic analysis of decision making by economic agents in the context of the wider social and business environment. The module focus is on decision making by economic agents and the international economy. The analytical ideas explored in this module aim to raise understanding of the complexity of the economic environment in which individuals, financial institutions, firms and governments operate. In addition, the theoretical core will help to develop analytical skills. Students will have the opportunity to study the interplay between economic theory and economic policy and to critically examine some of the arguments for external regulation of markets. The theory examined will relate to a number of important economic and social issues such as business regulation, strategic decision making by firms and other agents, informational problems and international trade. The knowledge and understanding acquired will help students to understand the arguments and analysis that they will be exposed to in other modules on their programme of study which deal with related aspects of the global socio-economic environment.
