Description

The aim of this module is to provide students with the theoretical understanding of the nature of management and to introduce them to the specifics of international management, organisational and the functional areas of management.

The first half of the module will be concerned with the functional operations of international firms from the perspective of managerial economics.

The second half will be an analysis of the ways in which the operations and management of international and multinational firms have changed in the 21st century. These changes will be analysed in terms of the design and structure of organisations, the nature of new instruments of financial control and the new employment relations in multinational organisations.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of key management practices in the context of the firm and domestic and international markets;
  • critically appraise the relationship between management and international management;
  • compare and contrast different approaches to business management;
  • apply the theoretical concepts developed in the lectures to different management issues;
  • critically evaluate the importance of the functional areas in management and their contribution to organisational dynamics;
